Rules

LemmyNZ has one core rule, underpinned by a Code of Conduct. These apply to LemmyNZ communities, and to LemmyNZ users. A LemmyNZ user must always follow the rule even when interacting with communities on other instances. Users from other instances must follow the rule when interacting with our local communities.

The Rule: Don't be a dick

This is the core rule of LemmyNZ. People come here to enjoy themselves, and if we all follow this rule then we can all have a good time.

Unfortunately this isn't specific enough for some users, so a code of conduct was developed in collaboration with the community to provide more guidance on The Rule.

Code of conduct

This code of conduct helps users understand how to interpret and follow The Rule. All LemmyNZ users and all users interacting on LemmyNZ communities must follow this code of conduct.

1. Don’t be a dick: Treat all members with respect and kindness. Avoid personal attacks, harassment, discrimination, hate speech, or any form of abusive behavior
2. No promotion or encouragement of suicide, self-harm, or violence against others.
3. Good faith participants only: No trolls, no nazis, no tankies.
4. Respect privacy: Do not share personal or confidential information about others (doxing).
5. No spamming or advertising: Avoid excessive posting of the same content or advertisements.
6. No disinformation: Posting of harmful disinformation is not allowed.
7. Report inappropriate behaviour: If you witness any violations of the code of conduct or encounter any other issues, report them to the community moderators or administrators. Help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all.

LemmyNZ is not a corporation

Before posting, consider that LemmyNZ is run by volunteers trying to provide an enjoyable space. We have no lawyers to fight legal battles so please don't post content that breaks NZ law, even in communities on other instances (since LemmyNZ also holds a copy). Please respect that we do this for free and have no implied obligations to users.
